GREAT TASTE BEEF label
From Great Taste Beef and Gallina Canyon Ranch comes
Meat your Meat

Saturday May 19th. 2011

On Saturday, May 19th., 2012, you may come to Gallina Canyon Ranch for Spring Meet Your Meat 2012. You and your family and friends may bring your picnic lunch to have under our grape arbor, and enjoy the sights, the sounds, and the experience of a real spring round-up on a working cattle ranch.

This year we were not planning on selling our calves to individuals, but several people wrote to us and asked if we would consider doing so. We will therefore discuss the subject with people who attend the spring round-up this year.

Because the beef market often changes, it is not possible for us to know in the spring what to charge for our animals that is fair to you and to us. Last year we sold our animals to individuals at a much lower price than what we would have received from the beef market. The price of beef at present is way up, and the prediction is that it will go up higher over the next 3 years. We feel you would not want to pay what the market will bring, as it would be much more than what you paid last year.

At present the market price for a 600 pound steer is more than $1,100; an animal weighing 400 to 500 pounds is currently bringing $800 to $1,000. Even our low-weight heifers will currently bring us about $730. We would have to charge individuals about $2 per pound "on the hoof" (live animal weight) to match the market price. It seems unrealistic to us that you would wish to pay this amount.

However, we will still have our usual "bring your own picnic" spring round up Saturday, May 19th, and we would love for you to come with your wonderful families. It has been so much fun for us watching your families grow.

Best wishes to all of you.
Andrew and Elizabeth
