HEIFERFEST 2011! Gallina Canyon Ranch invites you to our Heiferfest 2011 Fall Round-up, Saturday, October 15th., starting at noon. You may bring your family and friends, and a picnic lunch, and see the steer or heifer you purchased in the spring. We will provide juice, wine, cold soft drinks, dessert, and plates, forks, spoons, and knives. The picnic will be held under our lush grape arbor here at the ranch. Children are welcome! Directions to the ranch are available on the following web page, which includes a map that you might wish to print out if you have not been to the ranch before: http://gallinacanyonranch.com/directions.htm There is a gate at the bridge that crosses Rio Chama. The gate has four locks, one of which is a combination lock; the combination to the lock will be emailed to you after you have confirmed you are attending. After dialing in the number, you need to push the lock in a bit and then pull it open. Please scramble the number again after you have passed through the gate. Please let us know if you are going to attend Heiferfest 2011 by sending email to horseys@hughes.net Steers and heifers will be delivered to the butcher a day or two after Heiferfest. Please contact your preferred butcher before then and make arrangements with him regarding cuts, packaging, and when you may pick up the meet. Ismael Vigil's telephone number is 505-753-2453, and Mike Padilla (505-753-6338) at Arroyo Seco. We very much hope you can make it, and we look forward to seeing you. Below is the notice we sent out in the spring for our Spring Meet Your Meat 2011 Round-up. 17 people bought steers and heifers this year, and we still have several heifers available for sale.
Great Taste Beef Round-Up Here at Gallina Canyon Ranch our cows are starting to calve, and our first calf this year was born on Valentine's Day (her name is "Heart"). We had so much fun last year during our Meet Your Meat 2010 round-up we are once again selling our Great Taste Beef directly to you and your friends. Are you interested in quality, great-tasting, locally-raised meat? Our Black Angus steers are 100 percent grass fed, raised on the mesas of Northern New Mexico. We use no antibiotics, steroids, growth hormones or animal by products. On Saturday, May 14th., 2011, you may come to Gallina Canyon Ranch for Spring Meet Your Meat 2011 Round-up and choose the steer you want to buy; brand it, sign the ear tag, and give your steer a name, then in the fall we will deliver your steer locally for processing. You and your family and friends may bring your picnic lunch to have under our grape arbor, and enjoy the sights, the sounds, and the experience of a real spring round-up on a working cattle ranch. This is a great opportunity for you, your friends and neighbors to split the cost of meat for the year. You will have steaks (fillets, sirloin, rib eye, NY) for much less than the $20 per pound now being charged by Farmers Markets and Natural Food Stores. The cost per steer, not including the cost of processing in the fall, will be based upon the actual "hanging weight" of the steer: a $300 deposit is due in the spring at the time of the round-up, and the remaining cost is due in the fall (October or November) when the butcher weighs the steer. Our steers typically weigh from 550 to 600 pounds in the fall. You and the processor will determine how you want the meat cut and packaged, and we will deliver the steer to the processor at a to-be-determined date. Our suggested processors are Ismael Vigil (505-753-2453) at San Pedro, and Mike Padilla (505-753-6338) at Arroyo Seco. You may view our Meet Your Meat 2011 roundup by watching the video below.
